Competency VII: Engage in Scholarship
Formal Education
I completed the graduate nursing program at Ferris State University in December 2010 with a concentration in education. I have been a registered nurse since 1985 and have had the opportunity to be employed in a variety of settings including acute care, home care, and hospice. As a clinical supervisor in home care I participated in the development and implementation of the required 12 hours of annual home health aide training. The training was performed with handouts and a pass/fail for attendance. During my employment at HIllsdale Community Health Center I have had the opportunity to develop and implement several educational programs. Copies of my educational materials can be located under Appendix A.
A required assignment for completion of my graduate degree (NURS 600) was to develop an accreditation proposal recommending either the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) versus the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC). We also participated in the development of course descriptions, content, and objectives. This was excellent opportunity to experience and demonstrate skill in proposal writing which supports engagement in scholarship.
